Tetris PWA
PWA Tetris was made out of fork from Binaryify’s vue-tetris game. My goal was simply to turn it into a Progressive Web App so that I could play it in offline mode whenever I was out compaing. For whatever reason, I haven't owned a handheld console like the Switch of DS in a very long time. And so a simple game like Tetris that I could play wherever, whenever, from my phone as if it were a Gameboy, came as the perfect solution.
Why Tetris? Research shows that visually stimulating puzzle games like Tetris can help cut cravings by 30% (SuperBetter). While video games themselves can be an object of fixation,
Jane McGonigal, author of SuperBetter: A Revolutionary Approach to Getting Stronger, Happier, Braver and More Resilient - Powered by the Science of Games, in her book shares a study that shows that intense cravings can be reduced by about 30% simply by playing a visual puzzle game like Tetris. Apparently a large component of cravings comes from our minds picturing ourselves attaining the object of our desire and then reinforcing the story that we’d be better off with it than without it. By occupying our visual cortex with some other highly engaging visual stimuli, we are able to buy ourselves enough time and space before just giving in to our said craving so that we actually stand a chance of making a conscious decision. This is also what I have found in my own personal experience, and why I am so excited about featuring this simple game.
I found this version of Tetris made with Vue and instantly fell in love with it. All I needed then was a way to access it while I was offline. The idea literally came to me once while traveling. Then after maybe an hour or two, I was able to turn my fork of this game into a Progressive Web App, which gives web apps super powers such as offline access ^_^
